Sharp Aquos BDHP21U 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Sharp Aquos BDHP21U 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The player ships with component cables but no HDMI cable so make sure you have one in your cart if you don't have a spare laying around the house. The unit doesn't support blu-ray live and since the network hardware and connections aren't present you'll never be able to upgrade this to support that feature, so it's not future-proof.

The player is also quite large and deep, more at home in a high-end component audio rack. This isn't really a drawback since the unit is quite sturdy and you won't feel to worried setting a decent size TV on it.

Setup was a snap, plugin HDMI, plug in power, power up, chose english as the language, put in a disk and you're watching the movie. Eventually you'll want to get to the configuration screen (like the sharp TV's the navigation is clean and easy) and enable quick load which, for some reason, is not enabled by default -- it really makes for a better product experience. There's also a setting to disable all the dashboard lights save for the power indicator which is a really nice touch.

Out of the box, this unit played all my blu-ray disks, not one failed to play and it upconverted my regular DvD's nicely. As expected the picture was sharp (heh), crisp and played smoothly.

The big selling point for me was the integration with my sharp TV and the unit does not fail to deliver. They work flawlessly together.

Without network support (BD-Live) product upgrades are handled by downloading a file to a usb thumb drive with your computer and connecting the drive to the player. I haven't had to use this option yet and since this unit adheres to the final spec I don't expect to need to use it.

You can find much cheaper players these days, but I'm satisfied with the purchase. It works as advertised.

Sony 50CRM80RS CD-R Audio (50 pk Spindle) Review

Sony 50CRM80RS CD-R Audio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first ever review of a product that is not a recorded cd.But these BLANK music cd's from Sony so impressed me that I had to give them due credit.

I've burned hundreds (and I mean well over a thousand!) cd's over the past five years on my Philips CDR-775.I always felt a little ripped off when the first few cd's from any one package could not be read by my burner, and I always suspected that part of the problem was the way the cashier would run the cd's over their magnetic deactivator (whatever the technical term is!) to disable the anti-shoplifting EAS tag typically attached to the top cover of the blank cd container.I thought that maybe that process was also rendering the top few cd's incapable of being read or initialized.I've been told that that theory is invalid...but I'm not convinced.

In the past, I've had pretty good luck with Sony and Maxell brand music cd's, and lesser luck with Memorex and generic store brands.I recently had a couple packages of Memorex music cd's that I bought at different local music stores, and at least half of the cd's were useless in both packages.(My son is able to use them for burning music on our computer, so not a total loss.)I actually started to wonder if it was my aging Philips burner that was the problem; I mean, I have given it quite a workout the past few years! So to try something different, I've recently begun ordering these Sony music cd's online from Amazon; the brand served me well in the past, and I figured that I wouldn't have to deal with the possibility of a cashier de-magnetizing the first few cd's of a new package since it was coming from an online store-no store security device to deactivate...

EUREKA!The Sony cd's always arrive within a couple of days, and I have had the pleasure of NEVER finding a blank cd that my burner rejects. This is the only way that I will ever buy blank music cd's in the future, and Sony will have to screw up awfully big for me to change brands now.Even considering the additional shipping cost that you would save at a typical "brick and mortar" store, this product is an excellent value for your dollar, and highly recommended.(If 14 of the blank cd's from your local store are no good anyway, then this option makes more sense.)

Hint:Buy the 50-pack and save yourself about 24 cents per cd over the usual 30-pack price.Worthy.

Sony LBT-ZX99i 5-Disc CD Changer Mini Shelf System with Play Exchange Review

Sony LBT-ZX99i 5-Disc CD Changer Mini Shelf System with Play Exchange
Average Reviews:

Very good sound for a "Mini Shelf" system but then, it is not very small so make sure you have room and able to hold 146 pounds. The Bass boost is in deed heavy bass and vibrates things (probably too good for late hours in most places).Sound is still pretty good without bass boost with a little extra volume.I think Sony needs to make a half bass boost which probably would be the best sound on many occassions.
Like the Ipod input for my use and also so friends caneasily bring and play music they like. It looks "cool" but not sophistcated,Not the greatest sound
but it is good and for the price, I have no regrets.

Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went to Circuit City yesterday to purchase the Panasonic DMP-BD30K Blu-Ray Player. As the salesman showed me where the Blu-Ray players were located in the store I told him I was interested in the DMP-BD30K. His response was that I should consider the new Sony BDP-S350 instead. He claimed that the BDP-S350 had received great reviews and is a better player than the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. Usually I don't listen to anything the sales people at Circuit City say, but this time I decided to see if he knew what he was talking about. I did some quick research online, while in the store, and discovered that he was correct about the Sony receiving decent reviews. I had my mind set on the Panasonic DMP-BD30K after months of research and waiting until the price dropped below $300, so the prospect of the Sony BDP-S350 through me for a loop. I decided to purchase both players, try then both out, and then return the looser.

I have to admit that the results surprised me.As I said before I had my heart set on the Panasonic DMP-BD30K, but after installing the 2 players and carefully comparing their image quality and features the Sony BDP-S350 is the clear winner in my opinion.

Panasonic DMP-BD30K: (Profile 1.1)
The start up time was respectable (as the reviews I had read indicated) and the menu interface was straight forward and relatively easy to navigate. After setting up the player, my first test was to compare its ability to upconvert standard definition DVDs with my now obsolete Toshiba HD-A20 HD-DVD player. I had read online that the DMP-BD30K's upscaling abilities had something to be desired and my tests confirmed this. To be honest the results were a little disappointing. Next, I decided to move through the players setup menu and change a few settings. At this point I made another disappointing discovery. If for any reason you need to access the players setup menu while you are watching DVD or Blu-Ray disc the player will not remember where you left off. When you exit the menu and resume play, the disc will start playing from the beginning of the disc. Although accessing the setup menu looses your place on the disc the Panasonic does remember where you left off if the DVD is stopped or the the player is shut down and then turned on again. Other than these criticisms the DMP-BD30K is a very nice player that yields excellent results using Blu-Ray discs, but doesn't do a great job with SD DVDs.

Sony BDP-S350: (Profile 1.1, but soon to be updated via firmware to 2.0)
The Sony player was a pleasant surprise. The start up time was very respectable, and was comparable to the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. After setting up the player I proceeded to run the same tests that I ran on the Panasonic. I had read online that people were impressed with the BDP-S350's upconvertion abilities, but having owned multiple Oppo DVD players (in my opinion, some of the best out there) I was skeptical. I put in a SD DVD and could immediately see the improvement over the Panasonic. Although the image is a little softer compared to my obsolete Toshiba HD-A20 HD-DVD player, and my other Oppo DVD players, it was still excellent. It made the Panasonic's upscaling abilities seem unrefined and outdated. Next, I then jumped into the players setup menu and changed the players output resolution. What really amazed me was that when I exited the menu the player began playing my disc where I had left off. Finally, I tried powering the BDP-S350 down while in the middle of a DVD. When I powered the player back on it remembered where I had left off and began to play the disc. The Sony BDP-S350 seems the winner in my opinion due to its superior upconversion and disc playback memory.

Finally, I wanted to add that I read a review comparing the Sony BDP-S350 to the new Panasonic DMP-BD50K that declares the DMP-BD50K the winner (http://hdguru.com/first-review-of-sonys-latest-blu-ray-player-exclusive-sony-bdp-s350-vspanasonic-dmp-bd50/256/). This may be true, but the almost $300 price difference makes me feel that this is an unfair comparison. In my opinion, the Sony BDP-S350 is currently one of the best deals out there.

Panasonic DVD-LS86 8.5-Inch Portable DVD Player Review

Panasonic DVD-LS86 8.5 inch Portable DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this up after briefly reviewing the competition's specs. When you are shopping for a portable DVD player, the features you essentially want to pay attention to are screen size, picture quality, and battery life. If you are burning your own DVDs or playing certain styles of downloaded content you'll also want to pay attention to the format capabilities.

I finally decided on this device because it advertised 13 hour battery life andI was flying to Europe (a 9 hour flight from WA State). I was also going to be tossing it in a backpack and going. The folding design seemed like a logical choice to protect the screen with the applicable rough use.

Here's what I found, hope it helps you make an informed decision!

Pros:

- Design is elegant and fairly durable.
- Sound quality was surprisingly great.
- Controls were pretty intuitive.
- A/V cable was included accessory.
- Saves your place and starts up right from where you left off.

Cons:

- Though I didn't expect the full 13hrs battery life, it's more like 5-6 with a reasonable backlight level. Less without headphones.
- Picture quality is not comparable to competing devices like Sony DVP-FX930 9-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black.
- The buttons are awkwardly placed and easy to accidentally press when lifting or resituating the device.

Preference:

- I don't really think a remote is necessary for this style of electronic but some may find the lack of remote a drawback.
- The folding design can be a bit bulky for coach seating on a plane. It would have been nice if the screen could flip all the way over into a tablet design like this device does: Sony DVPFX810 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black

About Traveling with Portable DVD Players:

If you are traveling internationally and plan on buying DVDs when you arrive instead of bringing them with you... you'll want to remember that this device only plays Region 1 DVDs. DVDs from Europe are Region 2. Mexico, Central and South America, Australia and New Zelandare Region 4. Russia, much of Asia, and South Africa are region 5. In all, this means that you can only play DVDs from the region you buy the device from. There are some ways around this to my understanding but as a matter of convenience you may just want to purchase a player from the region you'll use content from. You can find more about DVD regions at:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=3193231

Looking back on this purchase, I'll probably opt for my iPhone/iPod or one of the following devices in the future...

Sony DVPFX810 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black
Sony DVP-FX930 9-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black

And Panasonic also offers a portable Blu Ray Disc Player for those of you who have gone Blu. Battery life is a bit limited and to be honest when I saw it I was thinking that Blu Ray wasn't really meant for a screen this small. That being said, it works in a pinch if your library is now primarily BRD...

I bought this DVD player this week and its quite sleek and plays all those DVDs which were not playable on my samsung DVD player...so very happy about the performance. The only draw back is that it doesnt have HDMI but connected it with the component output cables. Picture is crisp and sound quality is good...controls are easy except that the batteries seem to be a loose fit in the remote so make a rattling sound. I have yet to try out the Karaoke, USB and CD ripping functions..will discover it at my leisure. For now, im quite satisfied with the output.

Cheers

Works great! Haven't tested a 3D movie yet, but the sound is amazing. Easy to hook up. The S-Air really works without a glich. Goes great with my Sony setup: XBR60LX900 3D HDTV with active shutter glasses and the PS3 (to include 3D Gaming - wipEout HD is awesome!). It has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, perfect for me - PS3 and DirecTV box connect to the HTS, then the HTS connects to the TV. Now the only slight problem is that the device is a bit slow to remote commands when switching inputs, e.i. HDMI1, HDMI2, FM Tuner, BD player... and to the Menu (PS3 type). Other than that... simply amazing!

This was very helpful on vacation. The case attached to the back of the seat, so my son would not drop the player or have it on his lap.I was afraid he would fall asleep and it would fall or the battery would get too hot to sit on his lap.Plus, this way he was looking at eye-level instead of straining his neck and looking down.It was also cheaper than other models like this, and it was simple to attach. Not a lot of room for extras, but we just put those in his travel bag.

Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner Review

Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After pouring over all the DVD/CD Laser Lens Cleaners here, that vary quite a bit in price, I took the advice of the last reviewer who said they all work about the same, so for the price this one will do the trick. So thanks "an electronics fan from New York"..You were right. The"Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner" cleaned and restored the performance of my DVD player(which is also a CD player), and more. It has 6 little brushes on the disc designed to remove dust and other small particles that may be lurking on your laser lens after hours of play. This ensures a crisp/clear playback.

What the buying info here on the product page didn't tell me, was that seven "Quality Tests and Optimization Tools" are also included on this terrific little gadget. The whole process between the cleaning and the tests took all of about 5 minutes. Once the nice voice told me my lens was clean it instructed me on making sure that I was getting optimum effciency from my set up.

The tests included are 1.Stereo Imaging and Channel ID Check-checks set up of left and right speakers. 2.Polarity Test - checks positive/negative set-up. 3.Sweep Test - will let you know if all your speakers are working correctly. 4.ProLogic Imaging- checks your surround sound. 5.System Balance Check -adjusts for optimum volume levels. 6.Rattle Test - checks for vibration during low frequency emissions. 7. System Purity Test -checks for unwanted interference. If your system doesn't "pass" any of these tests, "the voice" will also tell you how what to do to correct it, or will tell you that your system is at it's optimum level. It will also advise you on how often to clean your DVD player.

I love this thing! It's multifunctional, reusable(keep it stored in the case it comes with), a good brand name and the price is right.Go for it....Laurie

Sony STR-DH810 7.1-channel A/V Receiver with 7 HD Inputs Review

Sony STR-DH810 7.1-channel A/V Receiver with 7 HD Inputs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received my new Sony STR-DH810 7.1 on Friday afternoon.I already had the previous version, the STR-DH800 set up in the living room. The DH810 I got for the den.It took less than an hour to pull the plugs out of my old Sony (non-HDMI) receiver and set-up the DH810.I would recommend that anyone getting this get a set of banana plugs for the speaker inputs. You "can" get the wires in the "screw-in" connectors, but banana plugs are just so much easier to deal with.I am using all 3 component inputs, 3 of 4 HDMI, Composite and CD, including DVD Coax, and all Optical audio inputs.Everything is very accessible and clearly labeled.

Once I had everything set up, I ran through the Audio/Video set-up manually. The DH810 comes with a mic that allows you to automatically configure your sound system (the receiver does all the work, but I prefer to do the "tweaking" manually. But that's just me.However, that said, after manually setting up my system, I reset the receiver and allowed the included mic to automatically detect and set up my sound system(just to see how it handled the task) and it did a bangin' job! Very easy automated and intuitive set-up.

The initial set-up is a breeze.Hold down the On/Off button on the receiver for 5 seconds until the receiver says CLEAR (which you can do anytime you want to undo any major blunders or just start fresh).Press the speaker button on the receiver until your speaker set-up appears, select your desired input button on the remote, crank up the volume and you have sound! From there, the remote's menu allows you to configure all the tweaks like EQ, Speaker distance, balance, bass, treble, you TVs resolution, etc. I would prefer some kind of TV-On-Screen Menu, but that is not really a big deal to me.

The sound is phenomenal and the DVD upscaling is very cool.I have Avatar on DVD (not blu ray) and the picture upscaled crisp and clear. The sound coming out of the speakers is clean and crisp. My audio CD's, movies, Cable TV, all sound great with the DH810.

I had been putting off buying this until someone gave it a rating, and I finally found a couple on the web that convinced me to give it an "early-adopter" try.Suffice to say, I am NOT DISAPPOINTED!The Price of $285 with no shipping was just a BIG plus too.

I will probably add to my rating later on, but for now, I HEARTILY recommend the STR-DH810 to anyone that has been hankering to upgrade their sound system with an upscaling 1080p A/V Receiver.

Pioneer BDP-330 1080p Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Review

Pioneer BDP-330 1080p Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player

UPDATE: Netflix was added via firmware on roughly 8/14

The news of Pioneer's departure from the plasma market shook the AV community a little over two years ago. Questions abound as to what the future would hold for Pioneer in a post Kuro world. Fans of their Blu-ray players - begun in earnest with the 51FD/05FD - wondered if a joint venture with Sharp would lead to a dilution of the high quality A/V performance at a very reasonable price point. The release of the budget-priced Pioneer BDP-120 was to some a harbinger of this venture manifesting itself in what appeared to an amateur eye as a largely re-badged Sharp player veiled beneath a Pioneer chassis. Its performance was nowhere near its 320 and 23FD brethren and its price point reflected such.

Emerging news of the 320's replacement came from European sources boasting Youtube streaming, which hinted the promise that US customers might get Netflix streaming or even some of the other instantly streamed video sources. The BDP-330 was largely unannounced until I found one in a Best Buy half-an-hour's drive from my house.

Upon lifting the all-white box, I noticed immediately that it was light, which caused me to prolong any disappointment until I got an opportunity to put it through its paces. I was a bit surprised the box made no mention of Youtube or any streaming services. Upon unboxing the player, I was a bit surprised at how small and shallow its profile really was. It makes the 320 look downright large. The biggest immediate disappointment was the rear output panel, which was identical to the European press photos completely devoid of multichannel analogue outputs. The Burr-Brown DAC-equipped MCH analogue outputs were one of the 320's strongest selling points. The player was made in April of 2010 in China; please note this is a departure from the Malaysian-built 320 and later 51s. The 120 was also made in Sharp and has a number of rear panel similarities including the power cord input's design. The player also shares the exact same model number remote as the 120 - VXX3351, which appears nearly identical to the 320, but including some strangely labeled buttons (page +/- and keylock) missing the video adjust button (this all but eliminated the hope that this might be a "real" Pioneer for me).

Upon firing up the player, I was greeted by the familiar Pioneer menu, but a very different setup menu that was very similar to the 120 best I can remember. Here's where the disappointment turns real: there is no Netflix; only Youtube and RSS. Gone is the slicky black background menu and appeared is the simple text and icon menu I remember from Sharp players. No choice for colorspace or high-speed HDMI...Just resolution. For folks who have been accustomed (spoiled) by the amount of tweaking possible with the 320/23/51/05, this is a huge disappointment.

All video adjustments options of the 320/23 are GONE. No Preset modes like Pioneer PDP or Projector. Once again, just resolution. This player is certainly not of the linneage of the current 320 or 51 with their extensive picture adjustment menus and presets. From this standpoint, the 330 is very disappointing.

In respects of load times, the quick start feature added very little discernable benefit to load times, that were very pokey. In fact, the current 320 was faster in actual load times in all the discs I tested than the 330. Other than the 2 second power off eject time, the Pioneer BDP-330's load times were embarrasingly so for a 2010 player whose peer group can load the same discs in a third of the time.

In testing deinterlacing capabilities with synthetic test suites, the Pioneer BDP-330 did not establish itself as a stand-out by any means. Its performance was very similar tot he BDP-120 in failing to recognize most of the film cadences. In video-based tests, jaggies were prolific and the moire in S&M's speedometer test was the worst I have seen save the Sony BDP-N460, S470, S570, and S370.

Realworld testing was bit more kind to the player. While the upconverted image was not as sharp as the 320, it was compotent on most test material devoid of choppy edits. My biggest complaint is the utter lack of video adjustments for dvd. There are simply no adjustment menus or sub-menus, which is the antithesis of the elaborate and detailed adjustment options available in the current 320.

Deinterlacing Performance using S&M Test Disc:

Test 2:2 2:2:2:4 2:3:2:3 (PF-T) 2:3:2:3 2:3:3:2 3:2:3:2:2 5:5 6:4 8:7:8:7 24p - pass Time-adjusted
Pio 320 pass fail pass pass* marg fail marginal fail marginal pass fail
Pio 120 pass fail pass fail fail fail fail fail fail pass pass
Pio 330 pass fail pass fail fail fail fail fail fail pass fail

Value/Overall:

With sluggish load times, just above average dvd quality, a lack of built in wirless connectivity, youtube and rss streaming only, no multi-channel analogue outputs, no picture adjustments, and non-3D capable, it's hard to argue why this player should cost more than $100 in this market. Even then, it's hard to argue why someone would purchase this player at all unless they are hell-bent on a pioneer fascia and youtube. Firmware and time may bring Netflix and other streaming options, but there are many other players that offer so much more for so much more less. With an MSRP appears to be a very lofty $299, I would encourage folks to explore a combination of two players like an LG BD550 and a Pioneer BDP-320 for nearly the same price and would be a perfect marriage of excellent AV playback of optical media (320) and excellent streaming options (550).All in all, this player is a massive disappointment to followup on the great performance and value the 320 offered.

Product Description:
Without question, the greatest success of all Pioneer's players is the ability to recreate film as the director intended. And as movies are the combined work of many people, from cinematographers and set designers to Foley and makeup artists, every detail is taken into consideration in order to help you get closer to the ultimate cinematic experience. In the past, film displayed on television required stretching 24 frames-per-second to match the 30 frames-per-second of television. More often than not, this would result in annoying motion judder and unnatural on-screen images. With True 24fps at up to 1080p resolution, you see only what the director intended as all film sources are displayed at their actual speed. The BDP-330 provides up to 1920 x 1080p resolution for unrivaled picture quality. And with True 24fps, you'll see your movies as the director intended. The BDP-330 offers simultaneous HDMI & Component Video Output: Enjoy High Definition Video from both the HDMI and Component Video connections. (Component Video limited to 1080i Resolution.)The BDP-330 also allows online Streaming Content: Enjoy online content from YouTube and read RSS Feeds when connected to the internet. Additional services available soon. I couldn't be happier.Everything has worked as advertised and the quality of the unit is above average for all the junk I see these days.I wanted it for my master bedroom to mount on the wall and have as few wires and devices hanging off of it as possible. The Bluray/Dvd player works well and connecting to a network was a snap.I even streamed a video from one of my computers to it, but the streaming quality leaves a little bit to be desired.I believe that is mostly due to the infancy of the technology. The internet functions work great for what I want Youtube and netflix operate just fine.

Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using this for 2 weeks now, and it's my first blu-ray player (no PS3).The good stuff:Excellent look, not too loud, amazing picture and sound.Working ethernet and USB port.(I haven't had to download any firmware or code updates, but I'm sure it'll work fine.)

Operations:No fan noise, no noise while playing, but during menu & loading, you hear some track-seeking which is audible at 10'... nothing offensive, though.I just noticed last night, after my 5th blu-ray a little flicker in in the bottom center of the screen during the credits of Juno... not sure if it's a bad disc or a player having a problem. It was repeatable, and the disc seemed clean.Lastly, the load time, eject time, etc seems just fine. Not instant or as fast a nice DVD player, but not noticably slow.I've heard alot about slow disc-loading, and if it is a problem on other players - it's not a problem on this one.Lastly, sometimes when you click on a menu instead of pausing, the screen with show a "progress-bar" for 2-4 seconds while the next manu loads, which isn't completely kosher, but doesn't bother me.

The so-so stuff:I'm giving this 5-stars because it's near-perfect at what it's designed to do for it's price, but it's not perfect. One reason to get a mid- to lower-cost player is to (duh) save money... if you're someone who has an older receiver that doesn't decode the two new DD and DTS formats, and (probably) doesn't decode multi-channel PCM, this player isn't for you.It only has stereo-out analog RCA plugs, not 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs.

That means you can't bypass your receivers pre-amp to play the newer audio formats and let the blu-ray player decode them.My old Receiver (which I used the player with for a week) only decoded DD 5.1 (no DTS, and only 2-channel PCM to 48khz).This player lets you send a PCM stream to your receiver from an internally decoded DTS 5.1 signal, but this didn't work for me... as my player can't receive 5.1 PCM streams, it only saw it as 2-channel.At least the player lets you downsample 96khz PCM to 48khz, so that I at least got sound (Golden Compass only has DTS 5.1 or DTS HD Master).

With my new receiver, all formats work perfectly, all bitstreamed.

Some people perhaps are holding off for new receivers because they don't want to connect through the player's analog RCA 5.1/7.1 connectors - but this is probably mis-information.What you want to avoid is taking digital sound, converting it to analog, then back to digital, then back to analog...don't worry - you wouldn't be doing this.Basically you would be doing all your processing in the player digitally, then once it is sent out through the pre-outs to the receiver you'd bypass the receiver's processing and it would go straight to the amplifier (which is of course analog anyway).

So my conclusion for thos people with older (but good) receivers - this blu-ray player won't save you any money. The best savings would be to pay a little more for a player with 5.1 analog outputs and continue to use your existing receiver.

This player replaces my 1st generation BDPS300, I have to say that this new player is so much better in the video quality. The color is very nice. I don't have to wait 45 seconds for the player to start, it only takes 6 seconds. The wi-fi on the new player is great. Having a Mac I was unable to download firmware but now it just updates automatically.

It doesn't have all the new stuff like 3D, but I'm not ready for that till a few more years down the road. Overall this player is the best I've seen. Thanks Sony for a wonderful player.

Sony MHC-EC709iP Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System Review

Sony MHC-EC709iP Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I brought a Thievery Corporation CD to Frye's and tested every system in there. This had the best sound for the money BY FAR. I like my music to have powerful base and thought about getting the same system with the sub woofer, but the highs and mids were not clear on that one. This unit had great comprehensive sound--clear mids and highs with great base. All of the other systems in this price range couldn't handle high volume and had around 150-170W, but this one maintained good sound as loud as I could turn it because of the 360W. The only drawback is that it's a little bigger than I wanted for a shelf system.
