I've been using the Ridata brand of mini-DVD in my camcorder for nearly 3 years now, usually buying them 10 at a time. This time I bought the 50-pack since I've never had a problem with them. The first ones I've tried out of these appear to be unbalanced or out-of-round, though. My camcorder definitely vibrates more when the disks are up-to-speed.I have finished recording on one of them and it appeared to finalize okay.I'm just disappointed with Ritek's quality control system that would let these get out the door.

This boombox does what I wanted:I can copy CDs onto blank cassette tapes so that I can easily play them in my car (no cd player in my older car!).Also able to play from my large collection of aging tapes--hate to have all those goldie-oldies unavailable to me.The sound quality is good and all buttons user-friendly.I can also play CDs that I have created on it without problems. The copy says it ships "from Amazon" but it arrived in a rather beat-up flimsy plain brown box.It was protected with air bags and was OK, but the packaging could have been a little stronger.

Compact and affordable, the JVC RC-EZ31 boombox is a great fit for tailgaters, picnics, parties, and a host of other activities. Users will groove to the unit's solid range of compatible listening formats, which includes audiocassettes, CDs, and self-made CD-R and CD-RW discs. And should listeners want to enjoy a DJ's playlist or NPR program, they can turn to the analog AM/FM tuner, which includes 10 FM and 10 AM presets for easy and quick station access.
The boombox also offers a number of essential CD functions, including 20-track programming, random play, and CD synchro-start recording, which coordinates the first few seconds of CD playback with the cassette deck's record button. The system's solid audio performance stems not just from its quality speakers (with 2-watt-per-channel output), but also its 1-bit digital-to-analog converter, which ensures a crisp, clean signal. I bought this to use with a ThinkPad x61s.It works fine in Windows, however using it as a boot device is problematic. At times the laptop doesn't recognize that it is attached. A workaround is to try rebooting over again, entering the bios, exiting the bios, rebooting, and hitting F10.You may have to repeat this process, but eventually it will show up as a bootable device.

Also, the AC adapter plug doesn't quite fit the AC jack, seems like it is the wrong length, but it does work.

While building myself a computer recently, I decided to install a Blu-Ray drive. I decided to go with Sony because of the amazing Blu-Ray output quality I have seen from my PS3. The BDU-X10S is a fantastic player; the biggest turn-on for me was the reasonable cost of the player. It does everything upscale home theater Blu-Ray players can do, but for much less. I am running this player on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, and as with all Vistas, the media player does not read Blu-Ray. You will have to download software in order to view Blu-Ray discs; I am using WinDVD 9 ($99), and the setup has turned out to be phenomenal. If you are looking for a Blu-Ray player for your PC, the Sony BDU-X10S is the way to go.

Pros: awesome 1080p resolution we have come to expect from Sony, easy installation, reasonably priced, good warranty.
Cons: software required in order to view Blu-Ray movies.

Yamaha DVD-S1800BL 1080p Upconverting DVD SACD Player Review

Yamaha DVD-S1800BL 1080p Upconverting DVD SACD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this player a good couple months now and have been very pleased with its performance. Very user friendly GUI and the machine operates easily. Discs load quickly and the transport is dead quiet. The picture quality is excellent be it composite (good), component (better) or HDMI (best). What's even better is the sound quality of CD's and SACD's thanks to four, 2 channel Burr-Brown dacs. It has a nice array of features, such as Audio Direct Mode, SACD Bass Management, SACD On Screen Text, Display Dimmer and an above average set of picture controls. These allow the user to really fine tune the image for optimal picture quality. Furthermore, it does a fantastic job up-converting Standard Definition DVD's to High Definition 1080P. It's also compatible with DVD-A, mp3, wma, divx and jpeg discs as well. The remote, although it's not back lit and lacks an eject button is still very user friendly, ergonomical and makes functional navigation a snap. The users guide is well laid out and easy to understand. Other notable features include, Dolby Digital 5.1 DTS built in decoders, gold plated pin terminals, one optical output, one digital coaxial output, Noise Shaped Video (NSV) with Faroudja DCDi processing that helps eliminate jagged edges and blurring, Wide Screen Mode selections, Screen Saver, Program & Repeat Playback for CD's and Progressive Scan. You could probably spend hundreds more on a universal player and still be hard pressed to get the performance of the S1800. So, if you're not ready to make the leap into blu just yet and want a great sounding CD/SACD and DVD-A player with DVD up-conversion for improved Standard Definition DVD viewing, consider the Yamaha S1800!

I decided to buy a new DVD player when my old XBOX refused to play one of my discs. Thought about Blu-Ray, but the price and lousy user ratings turned me off. For folks like me, who have an HDTV and not a lot of dough, this is a solid option. It makes about a minute to hook up (buy a HDMI cable first!)The picture quality is great, especially with you fiddle with the settings via the menu. As others have mentioned, the remote is kinda cheap, but it works and that downside shouldn't stop anyone from buying this player.

Your dream player with flawless, true-to-life picture quality and the ability to play virtually any disc! The Philips DVD player delivers your movies and music entertainment experience. 12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-Analogue-Converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC becomes in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors. The 192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.

Maxell CD-330 CD-to-Cassette Audio Adapter Review

Maxell CD-330 CD-to-Cassette Audio Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this adaptor to connect either a 5th gen iPod or iAudio U2 to my wife's BMW 5-series.The 528i has a cassette in the front and CD changer in the trunk. The soud quality from this Maxell is as good as it gets for tape adaptors. It will never be as good as using a dedicated line-out on the source plater to line-in RCA jacks on a good headunit (which I do in my car). However, those cars without any line-in connections on the amp/headunit, the next best thing is a tape adaptor.I've tried a few tape adaptors and this one has some of the lowest signal noise and virtually no mechanical clicking. It also boasts a high signal-to-noise ratio when compared to other models out there. It is also compatable with cassette players with a picky auto-switch feature.

Those of you with this unit (or any tape adaptor) and an MP3 player; I HIGHLY suggest you invest in a dedicated line-out adaptor (through the dock connector on recent iPods). This will give you much better sound quality than going through the headphone jack.It will also alleviate the need to volume match the output on the mp3 player to that of the volume level on the car system.

A word to the wise: As for the "An electronics fan" user who posted his awful review of this adaptor...ignore that review.I highly doubt any real electronics fan would keep blown speakers in his/her car.I also have trouble taking audio quality advice from someone who clearly doesn't care or understand proper audio staging/imaging, bass reproduction, EQ setup or the quality of his speakers. The fact that his speakers buzz with this tape unit shows the person a)needs new speakers, b)is outputting via a poor CD/MP3 player, c)isn't volume matching the signal or using a dedicated line-out, d)knows very little about audio.

Toshiba DR410 1080p Upconverting Tunerless DVD Recorder Review

Toshiba DR410 1080p Upconverting Tunerless DVD Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have had the recorder about three weeks.I am over 50 and completely new to video recording although considered the techno-twit in the family. The main reason we bought a recorder is because we have about a hundred Hi8 two hour tapes of our family adventures around the world some of which are 20 years old, and I needed to transfer them before they turned to dust! The reason we picked this unit were the price and the reviews on several websites.I had bought computer software and hardware back in 2000 and found it quirky, unreliable, poor quality and agonizingly slow to render.I gave up for a few years and decided to wait for the right standalone recorder. I had considered sending them off to be transferred, but that was rather expensive and might disappoint.Setup and playback:
Set up with the HDMI cable to my 52" 1080p LCD TV was a breeze.Upconverting to 1080p with regular DVDs is superb!A very noticeable improvement over my regular player.Subtle details and colors we never noticed before seemed to jump out at us.The manual and menus were about what I expected with a new technology to learn. The manual is adequate, better than Sony manuals. The menus were confusing until I experimented a bit and looked up some terms online.I am still learning them.

Recording:
I set up my old Sony Hi8 camcorder to it with the S-video and audio RCA cables. We have a Sony Hi8 standalone VCR that needs repair thus using the camcorder for tape playback.I setup my first DVD+r recording for two hour SP mode and nothing!A coaster! But it showed by the color change on the back that it recorded , just no video on it.After reading the reviews that said they got nothing but coasters I began to hope that it was just a beginners mistake and read the manual again. After playing with the menus I realized that I might have not selected the right input.Got it set and tried again. Voila! It not only recorded but the combination of the superior Hi8 source, and this recorder and the image and sound quality were fantastic!Hi8 records in PCM sound so the audio was perfect!

I immediately tried it in my Sony dvd player because I read several reviews that said it produced DVDs that were only playable in that machine.Sure enough it would not play in it.So I tried it in all three of my computers in my home network, two desktops and a laptop. It only played back in one of them.

I double checked the menus on the recorder and I sure enough had it set to auto finalize when full or with the timer??????

So I hit the manual again and it dawned on me that perhaps it only would auto finalize when the DVD could hold no more, or when a timer was set.It has been my experience with CDr data and music recording that once you remove the media nothing more can be done to it.But just to try I took the recorded DVD and popped it back into the recorder and manually finalized it.It worked!!!!!I learned that I have to finalize every DVD, it would only finalize automatically, under those two specific conditions, full or on timer.

Now the same DVD that I took out and would not play in but one other computer played perfectly in the Sony player and all computers I tried it on.I even took it to work and played it on our five workstations and the network server I administer, and perfect playback on all!

I suspect the folks producing coasters and incompatible DVDs did not RTFD (Read The Freakin' Directions!)

Last week Office Depot had a sale on 100 pack Memorex DVD spindles for 24 bucks.I bought one to experiment with the features I am still not clear on.It appears that even with a DVD-r or +r I can pause and resume without losing the recording thus being able to edit out manually in real time things I don't want to keep.I haven't even gotten into title and chapters, I just set it to auto set chapters every ten minutes, so I can easily find specific items to view quickly.I have a catalogue of every tape and they are numbered, and I just have to revise the content from feet of tape to chapters as I transfer them in the word document I have them listed in as the numbers will remain the same for each DVD.

I give it 5 stars because all technology manuals are terrible and adequate is the best I can expect. As well, the menus will take some experimenting just like the first time using any new technology or software.

This is an excellent recorder with lots of hidden features and capabilities. If you RTFD and play with it.

I thought I would be getting a Sony DVD recorder similar to the ones I have purchased in the past.First, you cannot record from a premium movie channel because these are blocked---hackers can easily bypass this feature.Ridiculous.Also, there is no record equalizer on this unit. This is a feature I liked on Sony's older models.I would not recommend this unit and will probably return it.I have four other Sony recorders that are wonderful. This one is a total lemon.

Panasonic SL-CT582V Portable CD Player with MP3 Playback Review

Panasonic SL-CT582V Portable CD Player with MP3 Playback
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the SL-CT582V after much research on current available portable cd players. I was mainly interested in a cd player, as I prefer my music uncompressed. I have a couple of Sony portables and an Iriver portable lying around the house. I've never owned a Panasonic, and after doing some research I decided to try one. Boy, what I have been missing. None of my portable players sounded as good out of the box as the SL-CT582V. In fact, it sounds better than good. It sounds great. I just use the normal EQ setting and any genre of music I throw in it sounds superb. I've tried the other eq's and they seem to work great. I just prefer the normal setting. I haven't had the sound setting past 10 yet, and on some newer cd's I turn it down to 8. It's nice to know though, that when I want it loud, I can have it loud. This is the best sounding portable player (my iPod included) that I've owned to date.

The player is well constructed and durable. It feels great when holding it, and just as great to look at. I really like the design and style of the player. The buttons are very easy to use and navigate. When you go to make an adjustment with one of the buttons, it just feels natural.

The player comes with a lineout albeit through the included remote. I would rather see a lineout coming directly from the player. However, you can play it through your stereo, car, and digital recorder if so desired. The remote is a nice feature. It is well constructed and includes the basic functions of the player. The clip on the remote appears to be quite sturdy. It also comes with an external battery pack for extended play. The headphones that come with the unit I haven't tried. I use my porta pro's.

The player also supports mp3's if you like listening to sub par audio. MP3's hurt my ears. Now, once in a while I will make an mp3 disk to sample some music. In that instance, I would like to see ID3 tags supported in the future. I would also love to see a playlist feature supported in the future as well.

The AM/FM feature is huge plus for me. I love being able to listen to a ball game from time to time and the AM feature allows me to do this. It also comes with several play modes as well.

In my opinion, if you want a portable audiophile system, then do purchase the SL-CT582v and a pair of porta pro's and you'll have one at your fingertips. I do.

I want to mention the "Digital Re-master" function for playing mp3's. What this function does is regenerate lost frequencies due to mp3 compression methods. I tried it on some live recordings I have, along with a test of my own from one of my cd's. I have to say I am quite impressed and excited about this feature. It seems to do what it says and does it quite well. I still prefer uncompressed, but for the mp3's I do have, you can't get any closer to the original file using this function.

The battery life also seems to work as advertized. I'm goin on two weeks and several hours a day on original batteries.

Enjoy. I am.

Product Description:
Panasonic's ultra-slim SL-CT582V CD player is less than an inch thick, offering pocket sizing, remote-control operation, and the ability to play not just standard CDs, but recordable CDs filled with MP3 audio files. Not to mention amazingly long battery life (up to 141 hours) and reliable anti-skip protection. Panasonic's No-Skip technology is designed to reduce or eliminate CD skipping during most use--there's even backup memory to cover extreme bumps. There's even a digital-synthesized FM radio with 30 station presets so you'll never be more than a button press away from your favorite stations.
The player runs on 2 AAA batteries and comes with an external battery case to hold an additional 2 AA batteries (no batteries are supplied). When using both pairs of batteries, the player will run for 141 continuous hours with MP3 CDs and up to 75 hours playing standard audio CDs.
At the core of the SL-CT582V's sound is Panasonic's advanced D.sound technology, which comprises 4 chief components: a digital amplifier (which helps reduce distortion and bring you crystal-clear sound--even at high listening levels), S-XBS super bass boost, Digital Audio Gain Control (which helps improve bass response at high levels), and MP3 Re-master technology (which restores through simulation lost fidelity in your compressed MP3 music files).
Playback options include 20-track programming, repeat (track or disc), and random play, and a 3-preset equalizer so you can tailor the sound to your preference. A hold function prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. The player does not include an AC power adapter.

Sony DRX710UL DVD+R Double Layer External DVD+-RW Drive (16x) Review

Sony DRX710UL DVD+R Double Layer External DVD+-RW Drive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product about a week ago, since I was looking for an external DVD burner to hook up to my laptop (IBM T-30 w/pcmcia firewire card) in order to consolidate a lot of cd's that I had lying around.Out of the Box:
The first thing I noticed was the size of the burner, which is actually pretty big compared to everything else on my desk, but with the verticle stand, it's not a problem. The drive itself looks like a high quality product, Sony even went the extra step of giving it a gloss finish.

Included in the box is a USB cable, and a Firewire cable with a 4 pin connector on one side, and a 6 pin on the other (the back of the drive has both a 6 pin firewire connector, and a 4 pin, so if you only have one type on your computer, you can just flip the cable around). Btw, Sony calls the firewire cable an "i.LINK" cable for some reason. Also included is a packet with the warranty, and seperate packet for the manuals and software CD.On the software CD:
Nero Burning Rom 6-SE
InCD 4
Nero Vision Express 2
Nero BackItUp
Nero ShowtimeInstallation:
The drive is purely plug and play, there are no drivers on the CD at all. Connect it by either the firewire or USB cable and it recognizes it very quickly. After the drive showed up in my computer, I popped in the software CD and installed the Nero software suite. I'm very happy that they included Nero, considering it's one of the best CD/DVD burning programs out there.Performance:
I went out and bought a generic brand of 4x DVD-R's to test the drive out, put in Kill Bill Vol 2, and started burning. Even at 4x, the entire process took 15 minutes. I was anxious to try out the Dual Layer feature, so I went out and bought a pack of DVD+R DL's. These things are not cheap, each one retailing around $10 a disc. After deciding on what to back up, I went to burn it. It took a bit of time, since it's burning at 2.4x, but it went flawlessly. I was a bit nervous, since I would've been annoyed (to say the least) at coastering a $10 disc.
In conclusion, I am extremely satisfied with this product. I can't find a reason not to give it less than 5 stars. It's easy to setup, it's easy to use, and it performs like a dream.

This is a great laptop for the price. It's fast, the picture is clear and I love the number key pad on the right side. My only complaint was the sound. There isn't much volume and the sound was weak and tinny. That was easily fixed with a $29.00 Gigaware speaker I bought at Radio Shack that sits on top of your open laptop. The sound is incredible for $30 and it plugs in with a USB cord. I would recommend this computer and this speaker.

Panasonic SC-BT203 1000W 7.1 Channel Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Sound System
Average Reviews:

We purchased a Panasonic SC-BT203 Blue-ray home theater system from Costco Saturday January 30, 2010.The packaging was not damaged, and there were no indications it had been previously opened. The packaging excluded all speaker cables, and the connectors in the back of the unit are a proprietary design.

We contacted Panasonic, and they ran us through a series of requirements, including faxing the register tape along with the serial number and other details. We went through this process completely twice, because they said they had no record of our service ticket, even though we read it back to them.

We had Costco Valet service (which we highly recommend) try to contact them and that failed. We will never buy another Panasonic product again. The price of replacement cables on a piece part basis from Panasonic for the 7 missing cables is almost 80% of the cost of the original package.

If you get a complete package, I'm sure the quality is good, but if you have a problem like this, service is non-existent.At this point we have a $460 paperweight. Panasonic SC-BT203 1000W 7.1 Channel Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Sound System

However other manufactures of mini discs have provided better quality products at cheaper prices. The discs did skip in places even on the first playing and i felt that this was poor for a mini disc - i'll stick to myold brand.

Sony DCR-DVD403 3MP DVD Handycam Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom Review

This is the first camcorder I've purchased and I intentionally held off until a good DVD camcorder was available. The dcr-dvd403 is worth the wait.

Video quality is outstanding; I'm recording everything in 16:9 with the highest quality possible (the camcorder records in low, medium and high quality yielding 1 hour, 30 minutes or 20 minutes of recording time per dvd) and surround sound. The camera picture quality is good but not exceptional.

I've heard of horrible startup times in previous DVD camcorders and am happy to say that after you turn this on you only have to wait a few seconds to start recording. With DVD media, you do need to format the disc one time, which takes about 20 seconds, but that is a one time cost. You also need to finalize DVD-R or DVD-RW media (you don't need to finalize DVD+RW).The cool thing with DVD-RW is that you can unfinalize it and keep recording.

There are a few things on this camcorder that really stand out:
- Super quick startup
- When you take pictures they are stored on the DVD instead of a memory stick. You can record video and pictures on the same DVD.
- The night shot mode is really cool, let's you see in the dark
- The touch screen is really cool, much better than having a million buttons on the camcorder.
- 16:9 support and 5.1 surround sound is really cool.

Sony NW-A1200 8 GB HDD Digital Music Player (Pink) Review

this is a very nice mp3 player with a feminine touch. it plays mp3s in a very nice sound quality. it has what it takes to be one of the best gifts for your gf. nice look, great color, innovative display, compact size.
supports playlists, album, genre .... etc.
some times it does not recognise some mp3 files. if you faced this problem, simply, convert it to WMA with any conversion tool and back to mp3 with no loss in quality and you are done.
I recommend it.

Coby DVD-514 Super Slim 5.1 Channel Progressive Scan DVD Player Review

Coby DVD-514 Super Slim 5.1 Channel Progressive Scan DVD Player

We purchased this DVD player because it plays DVD-R format discs. This enables us to watch our archived videos on our TV, so that laptop use is minimal.

The screen is very bright (blue) and easy to read. It has many features accessible via remote (i.e. zoom, slow, etc) and functions quickly. Its slim design makes it able to fit in tight places, although like most other DVD players can only be set up horizontally. Installation was a breeze, and it functions well with our satellite, VCR, game cube, and TV.

For an off brand (off brand only because it is dwarfed by the bigger corporations; Sony, Toshiba) it performs better than I expected. A month after purchase, it is still running like new.
