Panasonic RX-D29 CD / Radio / Cassette Boombox with MP3 CD Playback Review

Panasonic RX-D29 CD / Radio / Cassette Boombox with MP3 CD Playback
Average Reviews:

After reading the reviews that were already posted here, I purchased this item with great anticipation.I ended up returning it to Amazon.com within one week. The only thing I enjoyed was the cosmetic appearance and light weight for carrying.I was terribly disappointed in several important features. Most importantly, the sound quality was surprisingly poor.It only sounded reasonably good with the "sound virtualizer" turned on.The four preset equalizer options always worsened the sound. Classical instrumental music sounded okay, but music containing vocals had a serious balance problem; the vocals were too soft in contrast to the instruments and it was quite difficult to hear the lyrics clearly.I tested the same CDs on an older, much cheaper boombox and did not encounter the same problem. Many important features are only accessible from the remote control, so if the remote became damaged or lost, many of these functions would also be lost. The interface is not user-friendly or intuitive. For example, there is no general on/off or power button for turning on the CD player. You have to load a CD and then press play in order to "wake up" the boombox. Then, if you want to display the summarized track information or the total playing time, you have to STOP the CD while it is playing. You cannot use the search button to go backwards from the first track on a CD to the last one; I therefore could not access hidden bonus tracks on a collection of newly-released CDs that happen to have them hidden before the first track instead of after the final track. Most CD players have search buttons that do allow you to search backwards from the first track or forward from the last track to the first. Many of the other features on this box (including programming a desired sequence of tracks or accessing the radio presets) also require a bizarre set of steps using the remote control.I found myself having to refer repeatedly to the user manual, and it would've taken me a long time to memorize the steps. The designers should have put more control buttons right on the box and not just on the remote control. The display is small and poorly lit.The cassette player is also rather poorly made.I tried to listen to an audiobook and heard too much white noise when I set the volume high enough to comfortably hear the narrator (not very loud). The cassette player is only for "normal setting" tapes (not high position or metal). The radio had fair-to-poor reception despite the digital tuner. This boombox actually made me want to turn off my music or book, and that is why I decided to return it.

Product Description:
Whether you're after portability or simply a stereo system with a small footprint, Panasonic's RX-D29 CD/radio/cassette boombox is a worthy candidate. The system pumps 6 watts per channel through a pair of 2-way speakers, ,each of which uses a 3-inch woofer and a .5-inch tweeter. Enjoy your favorite tunes without interruption--you can play a CD at random, in a specified order, or repeat one song or the whole disc.
You can play your homemade MP3 music compilations, too. This unit is compatible with multi-session MP3 discs, but if there are a lot of sessions it will take more time for playback to commence. Albums and tracks will play in alphanumeric order, so number your files and folders to ensure a desired playback sequence. The boombox does not support MP3 song and album title display. If a CD-ROM-format CD contains MP3 and files other than MP3, only the MP3 files will be playable.
CD synchro start helps you record custom music mixes on cassette, and auto-scan tuning sets your presets for you (12 FM, 12 AM) when you power up for the first time. The unit even comes with a handy remote control to simplify operation from the comfort of your favorite listening position (remote requires 2 AA batteries, not included).
Full auto stop conserves batteries and cassette wear by shutting down when a tape reaches its end (or beginning, if you've just rewound), while CD cue and review controls help you zero in on just the section you're looking for.
Choose from 4 preset equalizer settings to tailor the sound to your preference (XBS bass boost, vocal, clear, or soft). A Sound Virtualizer circuit simulates surround sound from the boombox's 2 speakers. For MP3 listening, Panasonic's special Re-Master circuit reproduces the treble lost during MP3 compression, enabling reproduction close to the original.
The RX-D29 runs on either AC power (cord included) or 6 C-cell batteries (not included). Power backup using 3 AA batteries (not included) saves the current time, timer settings, and radio stations that you have set. If memory batteries are not used, memory items are erased if the unit loses power.
What's in the Box
Boombox, remote control, AC power cord, and a user's manual.

Idid not like this product I purchased. Because it does not have:
1. Scan button to seek stations
2. Preset buttons for stations
Morover, the antena power is too week, stations are not clearly captured, found difficulties in adjusting speakers balances and fade function and: the blue light is too bright at evening and is impossible to dim it. This divert the driver when is looking ahead at nights.

Thank you.

Sony DCR-SR47 Hard Disk Drive Handycam? Camcorder (Silver) Review

Sony DCR-SR47 Hard Disk Drive Handycam? Camcorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Im a student film maker and was looking for a cheap camera just to get me going. If you want an amazing camera you cant really expect to pay less than 600 bucks, but i took the risk and im proud I did. This camera is a standard class of video, but it excels beyond the class and could even be compared to cameras of 100 to 200 dollars more.

-Out of the box the camera lacks some color to it, however if you adjust the settings things look great. Its NOT HD, but the quality is still fantastic for some reason. It does lack some saturation to some colors (greens and somewhat blues) but its all adjustable to an extent. I kinda wish it had that "film" effect that some Cannon cameras offer so i dont have to add it in via Sony Vegas, but im happy with the resolution it has now.

-The zoom is absolutely out of this world. I was just screwing around with it and decided ill look down and zoom in on my shoe laces. I could literlly see grains of dirt all over my shoe lace, my shoes are completely clean to the naked eye. I was also zooming in on letters in long distances and was completely able to read everything clearly. The zoom does get a little pixelated when you put it on a TV (i have a Samsung HDTV) if you go too far or move around alot. However the stabability of the camera is phenominal, normally a zoomed in shot would be real shaky and un watchable, not with this camera.

-Like i said im a film maker, but i prefer to use the screen. I was using it outside and its not bad at all, you can put a screen of it or you hand or something and see clearly. The camera is TINY! I couldnt believe it was so small, fit in the palm of my hand without a problem.

-Sound is pretty good. When im filming its completely quiet all around me so i can hear the people talking and what not just fine. It sadly has no option for an external mic though. Its a CLEAR mic that will pick up alot of noise though, wind blowing or something. The Directional Mic that it has does a pretty good job of cutting out some back noise, but id still love for it to have an external mic.

-The cool thing for film makers like myself, is its a extremely good intro camera that you can afford. Not only that but Sony offers a TON of accesories for it. Wide Shot lenses, Camera saturation covers, underwater casing, external lights, and things of that nature. I thought that was extremely neat and bought the lenses myself.

-I forget the file it records in, but it uses the file so that it can burn directly to DVD. The feature is neat if you have a DVD burner for it (about 100 bucks) but you need to convert the file on your computer if you want to edit it. Its all good though, and if you have a good program you wont lose alot of quality.

-The built in HDD is amazing, so much space i couldnt believe it. Not only that but the memory cards it uses are the same as the PSP, they are cheap as heck. So you could add over another 16GB to it with a single card. One reason i bought this camera over its competitior is purely the fact that it uses a hard drive and not just memory cards, trust me its alot cheaper and alot cleaner.

-How the camera runs is great. Flip the flap open and bam its on within seconds, push record and its almost instant. It also has a built in lense protector, so press the switch and it shuts or opens, the camera will also warn you if its close obviously. The touch screen is impressive, i was expecting a delay or inaccurate intereactions but it worked well. Its nice not having a wall of buttons on the side of the camera for you to accidently push while recording.

The bad things i can think of. It has no external mic option, however you can buy Lepel mics and just match up the audio if you wanted. The battery it comes with kinda sucks, only lasts 90 minutes and even less if your filming in the best quality. The single shot pictures are not the greatest, can get a little grainy, but you dont buy a camcorder for that. Its not HD, while i wish it was, you have to buy some of the newer models for 500 to 600 if you want HD and i cant afford that right now, the quality is still amazing though.

I tried to touch upon everything here if nnot ill try to update as I come across things. So far im extremely happy with my purchase. I love Sony products as its usually quality and this camera is no exception, if anything its advertising the other cameras they sell that ill probably end up buying in the future. Right now though this is what I could afford and to me it seems like i got a 500 to 600 dollar camera for 300 and thats not a bad deal in my books.

The Sony cdx-gt420ip was originally purchased to go into my 1995 Bronco. It worked out so well thatI have purchased another to go in my 1988 Harley Davidson Electraglide Classic to replace the stock unit which was really showing its age. I purchased a adaptor kit from an online source which allows me to plug the Sony into my handlebar controls as if it was the much more expensive Harley replacement radio. Very happy with this receiver, especially with the IPod interface, it works very well. May buy another to put in the boat. Highly recommend.

Sony D-NS505 S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player Review

Sony D-NS505 S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I upgraded to this model after my original s2 CD walkman died. I was hoping to find a similar produc in the D-Nss05 and for the most part I have been satisfied.

The new handstrap is a neat piece of engineering, especially the little LCD that can be flipped depending on how you intend to hold the product. However, it isn't as flat as the previous iteration making it hard to put in a pocket when you need both of your hands free.

The ease of use on this model has been dowgraded somewhat in my opinion. Before I was able to control forward, back, and stop from a single joystick, and the volume control was on a mechanical dial that was easily turned with the ball of your thumb. On the D-NS505, it is very hard to reach all of the necessary controls with stratching into uncomfortable positions, especially if you use it in your right hand. Doing that puts the volume on the other side of the band from your thumb, making it difficult to quickly turn down the volume to see what someone is saying.

I have unfortunately been unable to test if I will be able to charge my batteries in this unit, but as the instructions don't mention it specifically I'm afraid it's another reason to reminisce for my old unit.

Those gripes aside, I do have to admit to loving the heft and quality feel of this unit. I have had no problems whatsoever with skipping, even after going so far as to drum on the lid of the unit for a minute.

As the original s2 unit is all but impossible to find I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a quality CD player, although Ic an't rank it the full five stars as I feel it's a step backwards from th e original unit.

Product Description:
Spin your commercial CDs, your homemade music CDs of almost any stripe with Sony's versatile, full-circle D-NS505 S2 Sports-styled Walkman portable CD player. Designed for rugged outdoor use, the player features active control playback operation so you can make changes to your program literally while you're on the run. Sony's "h.ear" clip-on headphones are designed for streamlined comfort.
Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-NS505's water-resistant body and heat-resistant lid helps protect it against the elements, with rubber gaskets, bushings, and splash-resistant seals that help keep out water, moisture, and dirt.
Playback options include 32-track programming, repeat (track, disc, or program), random play, and--thanks to Sony's great work in DSP efficiency--more than 75 hours of ATRAC3plus CD or more than 50 hours of audio CD playback from 2 AA batteries (not included).
The D-NS505's 2-line dot-matrix display is built right into its handstrap, offering full ID3 tag recognition, and bookmark playback (which lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button). CD Text support displays artist and title information with compatible commercial audio CDs.
The player comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with ID3 tagging and most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from your PC's hard drive and burns them to recordable CDs using ATRAC3plus compression.
ATRAC3plus is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space (you'll get around 490 songs per disc at 48 kbps).
Digital Mega Bass Sound boosts your music's low end without high clarity and low distortion, and there's also a built-in equalizer with 3 preset curves and 1 customizable setting. Sony's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries--and guards your hearing--by capping your listening level at either of two settings. You can hook the player up with your home system through an optional analog stereo "Y" interconnect.
The player also works with an optional AC/DC 4.5V power adapter (AC-E45HG or -E45A).
What's in the Box
CD player, ear clip-on stereo headphones, CD-ROM (SonicStage software), a user's manual, and warranty information.

Samsung HT-X50 5.1-Channel 5-Disc DVD Home Theater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent all-in-one multimedia player for the price. Here are what I like and I don't.

[Good]
1. Convenient five-dvd player (you can put 5 dvds inside.)
2. Xvid & WMV (you can play all your avi & wmv files)
3. Usb hosting (you can plug in your usb-hard drive or pmp and play your files.)
4. HDMI input (only 1, unfortunately)
5. FM-tuner is a bonus (your favorite station coming out from 5+1 speakers!)
6. extension cord for Ipod or other audio players
7. Sound from 5+1 speakers is really good and loud.
8. User interface is nice. You can change the background image with screen capture.

[Minus]
1. wires .. wires .. (I know this unit is not a wireless, but I wish it were. One thing I notice is that this unit has an option for a wireless connection for 2 rear speakers.)
2. speaker shape. They look okay, but to me a little rough.

Overall, I enjoy all the bells and whistles on this unit. It was a really successful and satisfying purchase.

* Updated: It didn't have a zone-free dvd playback feature. I removed it from [Good] list. I am really sorry about this wrong information. At the time, I happened to play a foreign movie released for US market and I mistook it. Again, my sincere apologies to those who bought this player for that reason due to my review. However, my wife and I are still happy with this player and enjoying it.

Just got this new Sony CD player. This replaced my old Sony CDX-L350. Though the old one had D-bass enhancement, this one is superior with the DSO. The sound is extremely clear. You can also use the EQULIZER which have BASS-MID-TREBLE from 0db to 10db. The old one had only BASS-TREBLE from 0db-5db. If you turn off the DSO in this, it produces good bass with clear sound. This actually made the full use of my 6"*9" rear speakers and 6.5"*6.5" front speakers. I didn't feel like going for subwoofers. This also looks cool with the red display buttons and white digits. It is not hard to detach the faceplate and can be put back easily. This comes with the remote which is super light. My power antenna goes up only when i turn on the radio, whereas my old system had the antenna up all the time when it was turned on. I hope these information helps you to decide to by this. Good price and good sound.

Product Description:
This sharp-looking Sony CD receiver boasts twenty-three watts by four channels of power. The detachable, fold-down faceplate offers an extra bit of security. With the seven preset equalizer settings, you can compliment the three-band equalizer to perfect your listening desires. Sony's Dynamic Soundstage Organizer is special Sony circuitry which induces subtle phase shifts, simulating a sound source that sounds higher than the actual speakers. What does this mean in terms of listening pleasure? Basically, it lifts the music from low on the door (depending on your vehicle) and makes it sound like the music is coming from the dash. Thus, a more direct and clear sound is created. This unit offers three levels of DSO, each with a larger and higher soundstage.
The FM/AM receiver offers eighteen FM presets and twelve AM presets. The CD player supports audio CDs, plus CD-R/RWs. To help you operate the radio while driving, Sony has engineered the radio with large buttons, including the easily accessible Source button. Additionally, this radio has a remote control, allowing for hands-free operation while driving. With the pair of preamp outputs you can further enhance the sound of the radio. The radio is black with red highlights. The display is white. Mounting hardware is included.

Denon DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Disc DVD/CD Player Review

Denon DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Disc DVD/CD Player
Average Reviews:

PROS: Superb CD over analog, excellent bass management, beautiful BD/DVD picture with Realta, decoding of ALL codecs, solid construction

CONS: Sluggish in response, expensive, not BD-Live 2.0 although some would call this a plus!

I've owned this player for nearly a year now and have watched a lot of the bugs get fixed through firmware. UPDATE: Decoding of DTS-HD HR (as of 1.115 firmware 11/24/08) is now included.Owners in forums were slow to pick up on this due to HR being the "forgotten codec."It decodes ALL now!!!The 3800 also does bitstream all codecs if you are so inclined. This player is really targeted to the analog crowd as it's got AL24 processing and great Burr Brown DAC's. If you own an HDMI capable receiver, then the purchase is more questionable as you are paying for an analog section you may never use. The Realta keeps the video reference quality so no need to keep the DVD player.

Summary:
Targeted to owners of non-HDMI receivers who want extensive bass management and listen to CD's and play both DVD's and BD's in one player. I suggest you purchase an extended warranty or get the Marantz BD8002 since it has 3 yr warranty and is a clone.

Similar players:

Sony BDP-S5000ES - a fine player but lacks the bass management that the 3800 has for the analog output (ie. fixed crossover).

Pioneer Elite BD-09FD - another fine player but will not have DTS-HD MA decoding until future firmware. It is also rumored to have variable crossover through future firmware but the manual currently implies fixed crossover.I personally would never buy a product based on "future functionality."

Marantz BD8002 - a clone of the Denon 3800 with a different power supply, faceplate, and Marantz's own upsampling instead of Denon's AL24.Otherwise almost everything is the same as the Denon.

Connected to a Sony KD-34XS955 HDTV

What can I say. It works great!
Easy to set up out of the box. Picture and audio quality were great as expected. Now that I've seen both I can honestly say you will not be able to tell the difference

Pros and Cons

Internet setup (DHCP for me) was a little time consuming but that had as much to do with configuring it to work with my cable router and it's fire wall than the player itself. Once connected I uploaded and installed the latest firmware. It takes a while even over high speed so get it going then go do something else for a while. Once done the player will install the firmware and turn off. Turn back on and you're good to go. Con?- No 1080P output. Since My HD TV's max is 1080i this doesn't matter to me. It may some 6 or 7 years in the future when I replace it but by then who knows where the content delivery world will be? A word to the wise...Most flat panel displays out there right now aren't even a true 1080 by 1920 resolution anyway so before you spend the extra dough on a 1080p player make sure your display has a NATIVE display of 1080X1920. Otherwise it will just downscale your 1080 picture and you will have wasted your money. The Sony 300 does output 1080P but so do like priced HD DVD players. The difference in picture quality is minute since a 1080p display will upscale the 1080i picture anyway. There is no broadcast 1080p.

Since the only other HD player I've looked at was the Sony 300 Blu Ray that's what I'll compare to

Pro- Short boot time (20 seconds) and disc load time (15ish)so far.
The Sony was at least a minute per.

Good response time to remote commands. Still slower than a standard DVD player and the scan is more like windows media player than a standard DVD player. The Sony's reaction time was terrible and it cued commands so you could easily lose track of where you were. The A3 also provides you with a soft beep (can be turned off) so you know your command was received.

Pro/Con Unlike the Sony this deck has zoom and pan however it does not like to play in slow while zoomed. This can be a pain if you like to check out CGI.

Pro-Did a great job upscaling my standard DVDs. Picture was as good as my Sony NS75H upscaling player. The Sony was terrible no matter what settings I used. I found that rather strange since I know they can make a good upscaling chip.

Pro- The afore mentioned internet connection. Simply put the 300 does not have one. I imagine it can be upgraded via disc as can this player.

All and all a great player for a great price! I'm not going to get into the content argument other than to say that I have a problem with a manufacturer trying to force me to pay inflated prices for an inferior product by withholding content. My simple remedy will be not to buy any content from Disney, FOX or any Sony exclusive even on standard DVD. Any releases held exclusive to Blu ray that I want to watch will be rented in standard def via NetFlix. In fact my DVD purchasing has all but stopped anyway. This is not only due to the huge amount of titles for rent at Netflix but also because Hollywood has produced little in the last few years worth owning. I know Toshiba has its partners and exclusives but they are not charging an arm and a leg and their format is much more stable Blu Ray.

When Sony or one of it's manufacturing partners comes out with a WORKING Blu Ray player that won't go obsolete in 6 months for $225 I'll get one. Until then my A3 will remain my only HD player.

Sony D-FJ003 CD Walkman with AM/FM Tuner (Black) Review

Sony D-FJ003 CD Walkman with AM/FM Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted the reliability and quality of a Sony, and a CD player AND radio in one unit was very important to me, but I did not want to pay a lot as not too long ago I had purchased a Panasonic CD player/radio, and the CD player conked out on me pretty rapidly. This Walkman is durable (I have dropped it a few times, and the CD didn't even skip when dropped, and the unit still works wonderfully!).It is also relatively simple to operate. However, I do not like the buttons or display window much. The buttons are hard to press one-handed, and the display is hard to read most of the time. The buttons and display are located on the edge/circumference of the Walkman rather than on the nice, broad top, making it difficult to access them. NEVERTHELESS, if you want a quality Sony product at a good price and you aren't terribly bothered by button or display ergonomics (I am not), this is a Walkman for you.Great value for the money!

SONY HT-6600DP Home Theater In A Box Review

SONY HT-6600DP Home Theater In A Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying that I am not an expert on home electronics, but after my boyfriend and I decided to buy a home theater system, we really did our homework. This system is great because the receiver and the DVD are separate units, so if one dies, your entire system is not rendered useless. Also the speakers run on standard speaker wire, so you can replace speakers without having to purchase a new system (unlike many of the other packaged systems).
The quality of the sound is great. We live in a two-bedroom apartment and cannot test the upper limits, but the mid range is great for filling the place up with rich sound. With our previous stereo if I could hear it in the back bedroom I knew it was too loud. That is not the case with our Sony.
The remote takes a little getting used to and doesn't fully control other units. For example, you can program it for the cable box, but it does not allow you to retrieve the program menus. You can fully control the DVD player with the receiver remote, but it does require reading the manual.
My boyfriend's input to this review is "It's big and silver, therefore cool."
All in all, I think this unit is definitely worth the money. If you are looking for a nice unit that doesn't break the bank - this is the one!

Product Description:
In years past, if you wanted to watch special-effects extravaganzas in all their glory, you had little choice but to hit the local multiplex. Now, with products such as the HT-6600DP home theater in a box, your living room can host cinema-quality sound that puts all but the most modern theaters to shame. This 700-watt system (120 watts x 5, plus a 100-watt powered subwoofer) delivers exploding sound from its five-disc DVD changer and Dolby Digital-, DTS-, and Dolby Pro-Logic II-compatible receiver. The unit features Precision Cinema Progressive Output technology, which processes image changes at the pixel level to better reproduce the source material, and Precision Drive 2 with Dynamic Tilt Compensation for more accurate playback. In addition to playing DVDs, the system handles CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+RW, and MP3 formats, and offers 20 FM and 10 AM station presets on its built-in tuner.
Like many other home theater systems, this HT-6600DP is loaded with extras that enhance the home viewing experience, not the least of which is the 32-bit Digital Signal Processing for superior audio performance. Other convenient features include a twin laser pickup, instant replay, block noise reduction, virtual surround, SmoothScan and SmoothSlow modes, CD and DVD text, and custom parental control. Graphic images and audio files are enhanced by the 12-bit video digital-to-analog conversion (with 108 MHz processing) and the 96 KHz, 24-bit linear PCM decoding.
Another benefit of home-theater-in-a-box systems is the convenience aspect, as the bundles include not only receivers and DVD players, but also a set of surround-ready speakers. Included in the HT-6600DP are a slim center speaker, four satellite speakers, and a 100-watt powered subwoofer with an 8-inch driver. The speakers are magnetically shielded so as not to interfere with the TV picture.
The system is compatible with a host of other components, with three analog audio inputs, one analog audio output, three optical digital inputs, a coaxial digital input, and an optical digital output. The A/V inputs are composite and S-Video type, as are the A/V outputs. The system also includes two component video inputs and one output, plus a monitor video output, A+B speaker terminals, and a 1/4-inch headphone jack. The entire system comes in silver and is powered by a UniCommander remote control. The device carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Hitech Prismatic / AA / AAA Batteries Charger Set Review

Hitech Prismatic / AA / AAA Batteries Charger Set
Average Reviews:

I got these and was excited to find reasonably priced gumstick batteries - and a charger too!But after two days of charging, they still wouldnt' power my Sony RH910 minidisc player. Now after a week of charging, they register as half full when I insert them into the RH910 - but that's enough so I can plug the '910 into the USB of my laptop and it can finish charging the batteries (one at a time).I haven't run them long enough to see if they have the same runtime as the $50 Sony battery.

EDIT:OK, after charging them a few times *in* my minidisc player, they seem to hold a charge about as long as the Sony battery. Not sure why they didn't work right out of the box, but modern batteries are complex chemistry miracles, and maybe they sacrafice the OOB performance to get long-term life?

Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W Review

Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After I came home from 5 months in Australia to find my Aiwa stereo not working I knew it was time to buy new audio equipment for my room. I like the idea of a shelf system so I began looking for one that was 10 years newer and fit my preferences. I went the stereo route because I wanted a radio and CD player and ultimately a tape deck, although this unit does not have one. I had read several reviews of this model and went into the store (BJ's Wholesale Club of all places) to test it out. Bringing my iPod, I was thoroughly impressed. I went back the next day and purchased this bad boy.

The stereo comes in a huge box but is managable. I was surprised to find the unit overall is very light-weight and set up is easy. Once I finally had it set up, I was immediately impressed with the stellar sound. This thing is LOUD. You get crisp highs, balanced mids, and thumping lows thanks to the additional subwoofer it comes with. I don't think I've heard an iPod sound as good as it does with this unit. As I have read previously, the speaker cords are a bit short. The satellite speakers are fine, but how is a subwoofer expected to be placed on the floor as I want it with such relatively short cords? I'm planning to get some additional cord so I can place the speakers where I want.

I'm very happy with this system and being a bit picky about my audio sound has proven to help me find a great stereo. All kinds of music sound great, from thumping hip hop to reggae to accoustic rock.

This thing is also pretty sleek looking, being a metallic black, modern looking, and light blue accents in the speakers.

Why not a 5?
-Short cord length
-Small display which is hard to see from far away
-No custom EQ, although "rock" mode sounds best
-No tape deck. I admit tapes are out-dated but it would be nice to have the capability to play them

Overall VERY happy with my purchase and definitely recommend this system to and audiophile who wants to pack some punch into his/her audio system.

Sony D-NF610 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman with Digital Tuner Review

Sony D-NF610 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman with Digital Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After using this device for one month+, this is a small list I gathered here for good/bad things about this little mp3 player.
Pros:
- You set your favorite radio stations, and it is still there after you change the battery.
- Good sound output quality and can deliver high sound levels
- Two level dynamic bass (although, i dont like to use)
- Your old MP3 CD's will suddenly make sense.
- Long battery life. I bet if they put some kind of solar cell on this devices, it would run with them perfectly without battery nor main power.
- some of other sony cd mp3 players has much successful (harder to break) control buttons. But D-NF610 looks smooth and beautiful with its radio.
Cons:
- My reason to give it 4 star (canceling 1 star) is its poor quality buttons.Especially the CD OPEN button is a stiff plastic, when you bend it by pressing, CD door is open.Someday either it will loose its speciality of keeping the cd door close, or it will be broken.
- Sometimes when I try to change radio channels, CD starts playing.Because of tooo compact and joint button desings.I have small fingers.
- Poor quality radio, especially when I compare to my old sony walkman radio.Too much noise and no MONO/STEREO switch.
- There is a USA/Europe shortwave radio BW (9KHz or 10KHz) switch to make you choose. But No switch for NTSC/PAL/SECAM systems. So TV Tuner does not work in Europe.I guess, you will need to buy D-NF611 for Europe.
- You will need a cd player bag.
- Japans and I have opposite intuitive direction feeling. When I use Jog Dial button, it does the opposive of what I thought.(That had happened to me with my Sony CMD Z5, I guess this is something to do with japaness culture)
- You cannot register this item, if you are not living in USA/Canada.
- No built in battery charger. This seems a logical decision to remove such a charger, because it is a very simple and cheap circuitry to do that. Would only increase its cost of production say 1 cent for sony, but would made our life easier.

Product Description:
Get the most from digital music with Sony's DNF610 portable CD player, which includes SonicStage CD Simple Burner software so you can take advantage of ATRAC3plus, Sony's proprietary music-compression technology when making custom MP3 CDs on a computer. The DNF610 puts the best of the broadcast world at your fingertips, too, with its FM/AM/TV/weather-band digital tuner. Using its 51-station preset memory, favorite stations are never more than a button away. The player also includes Sony's popular Jog Dial control for easy folder navigation, a two-line dot-matrix display, and achieves up to 40 hours of continuous playback on two "AA" type batteries (not included).
The player comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with ID3 tagging and most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from a PC's hard drive and burns them to a CD using ATRAC3plus compression.
Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. Bookmark playback lets you program favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and CD Text support displays artist and title information with compatible commercial audio CDs.

Sony MZ-B10 MiniDisc Voice Recorder Review

Sony MZ-B10 MiniDisc Voice Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using this Minidisc recorder for about 6 months and overall it's not a bad little recorder. The battery life is excellent and it can record upto 320 minutes of audio. It has a reasonable speaker for its size. The few hiccups I have are;

Built-in MONO microphone (Sony calls it a flat mic.), no back light for the display, slow rewind/review response, Track mark button should have been placed closer to the Record button, the open catch could have been recessed - More than once I have picked the unit up while it was playing and the case opened and the MD fell out! Hmm... frustrating. This unit does NOT allow you to label tracks. Useless carry pouch - what ever happened to those great custom fit leather cases Sony used to produce with their portable electronics? I miss those! I suggest anyone contemplating purchasing this unit to look at the B100 model. Or even hold off for a while until the new Hi-MD format reaches the notetakers. It could save alot of heartache.

Sony CMT-NEZ3 Micro System Review

Sony CMT-NEZ3 Micro System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Last year the 3-disc CD changer on my Phillips compact system (FWC550) died shortly after the warranty period expired (naturally). After doing some research I decided to try the Sony system based on Amazon customer reviews.(I do a lot of shopping on Amazon because of these reviews; I can make better decisions and I learn a lot too!)

Although the included speakers produce quite acceptable sound for what they are, I did the same as some other reviewers and substituted the really good speakers from my old Phillips 550 system.Wow!The sound is great!

APPEARANCE, CONTROLS, SIZE:The cute little all-silver main unit is lightweight and fits perfectly in a small spot on my desk. The large unit controls and remote proved easy to use.The included speakers look fine and the whole system is more attractive than my old Phillips. The top-loading CD player (no CD changer to break this time!)and the cassette holder are convenient to use.(I still have lots of cassette tapes, which hints at my age.)It was easy to set the clock.

SOUND:Crisp and clean.Bass and treble can be adjusted with the equalizer on the remote. I like lots of bass and this system delivers (through different speakers of course). The Dynamic Sound Generator can be turned on for even fuller sound and the effect is very pleasing. CDs and tapes sound equally good.I don't use the radio.

OTHER: You can do CD shuffle and repeat play or create your own order of play. You can record a CD to tape but I can't imagine who would want/need to.There are also audio in and headphone jacks.

PROS:Small, light, easy to set up and use, great sound and very inexpensive.Perfect for someone looking for just the basic functions plus a few nice extras.

CONS:At this price, I don't think it has any.Now if it will just last a lot longer than my last system............
