Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great player that offers an excellent picture, and is easy on the wallet.I bought this at Walmart for under $200 and I have been very pleased with the quality.I was blown away by the great picture blu-ray has to offer!Dont expect to many frills such as BD-Live, but do expect a great, "pop in your movie and go" player! It does have an sd-card slot that allows you to save bookmarks and view photos and video clips through the player onto you tv which is really great.

So if your on a budget and want an excellent player for any price, you cant go wrong with this one!

On a side note, some people complain about load times, and although it takes a bit longer to load BD discs than regular DVDs, its quite understandable and really only takes about 30 seconds (give or take a few).

Sony? Blu-ray DiscTM Player BDP-BX2 Review

Sony? Blu-ray DiscTM Player BDP-BX2
Average Reviews:

Outstanding quality. This blu-ray player produces a top quality picture.Setup was painless. However, if you like to add all devices to your cable box remote control, I could not get it to recognize this player.I tried all the Sony codes in the manual and then tried the learn process and the cable remote could not operate this player. Not a deal breaker but an annoyance. This player has BD Live which allows for firmware updates over your network but has to be hard wired. It has no wireless capabilty. It does not have some of the newer network features such as Net Flix, You-Tube, Pandora, etc.But with BD Live, maybe these capabilities will be added in future firmware updates. My unit arrived with .006 firmware version.Web site review indicated that version .007 was the latest firmware available.I called Sony for the .007 firmward disc and they sent it free of charge and it arrived in 4 days.Great service from Sony. There is a Quick Start option that I selected so I find this player to be very fast from disc insert to start of movie.

Bottom line:If you are looking for a top quality Blu-Ray player, you can't go wrong with this one.And the firmware can be updated as newer versions come available. If you want the latest internet features, they are not offered with this model.I would highly recommend this player.

AmazonBasics 4.7 GB 16x DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle) Review

AmazonBasics 4.7 GB 16x DVD-R
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the past, I've found DVDs from different companies may or may not be usable in all my equipment. Sony DVDs were compatible with all my equipment, but they can be pricey. I was happy to find that these Amazon DVD were compatible with a wide range of equipment. We've already burned DVDs on an Apple IMac G5, Dell Inspirion 15, Sony DRX-840U DVD burner and Toshiba DR410 DVD player/burner. No compatibility problems. And they are priced less than $19 for a 100 disc spindle! Excellent!

And although Amazon touts their new "Frustration Free - Ready to Ship" packaging, I received my package of DVDs in a small neat box marked "Ready for Shipping" INSIDE a huge box labeled C3 that was 19 X 13 X 8. I don't think the warehouses are clear on the concept yet. Although my account page allows Packaging Feedback on products I ordered, none of my Amazon Vine products, including this one, are on the feedback page. But this minor flub did not change my mind or rating for these DVDs, they are an excellent product.

DVD-R: Quality Media Storage
DVD-R is a Write-Once format with a storage lifetime intended for storing videos and archiving important business or personal data. Compared with CD-Rs, DVD-Rs offer more storage space and faster write times, making them a natural choice for preserving media and other large files.

Each AmazonBasics DVD-R disk can record up to two hours of DVD quality video programming. A single DVD-R can also hold three hours of VHS-quality video or more than 60 hours of MP3 audio.

DVD-R Compatibility
There are two types of recordable DVD disks available. Almost all recent DVD players and drives can handle both burned DVD-R and DVD+R disks, but some older players can only read one format or the otherIt is important to check your player's manual to determine which DVD type it supports.

16X Write Speed and Organic Dye: Built for Fast, Accurate Writing
AmazonBasics DVD-R disks enable fast write speeds from 2.4X to 16X (16X is maximum. Burning speed will fluctuate.) for quick, clean data transfer. (To take full advantage of these speeds, your DVD burner must burn at speeds of at least 16X. Consult your computer or DVD burner product manual for this information.)

At 16X, transfer speed translates to 21.60 MB/s, which means that you can burn a full disk in less than four minutes. The organic dye used on the write side of these DVD-Rs provides stable writing at high speeds for reliable, accurate finished disks.

Granted this is an old review from 03, maybe Sony has improve on thier CD since then, but I have not use them since.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please do not buy, look for a different brand. You will lose data.

I am furious how many Sony's CDRs I have replaced. They are the absolute worst product out there.I don't know how such a great electronic company would leak such low quality, unreliable CD-R.The problem I have with Sony is overtime the CDs become unreadable. It said not MS-dos error or something when you try to copy the data, basically it become unreadable. The surface of Sony CDR is a smooth pearl. After 1-2 years they start to fake off on the edge like watermark. Not because of careless, but of the CDR surface quality.Other cheaper CDR I have for 3 years (storage in the same location as the Sony's CDR) are still readable and don't fake.I lost some important data with at least 4 Sony's CDR.The files at the outer edge are affected the most.

I though the smooth pearl color of Sony was very pleasing compare to other ugly blank CDR.TDK is now my CDR of choice now.It has a clean look and it CDRs are more readable on any cd-rom then Sony.I am in a progress of reburning all data that are on the Sony to TDK.Again, Warning: Do not buy Sony's CDR.

If you are already using a Pioneer head unit, CDX-P1280 can complement your head unit with more capacity to play your favorite CDs without changing them frequently. I am using P1280 for four years now, earlier used it with Pioneer KEH P 7250 (Discontinued), and now with Pioneer P-80MP. This CD Changer unit is a fit it, forget it kind of unit. No repairs required, in fact never cleaned the lens unit in four years. It can mounted vertically and horizontally. It also has a 100 Discs memory, so if you are like me who feeds the title of the disk, it will make your life simpler. If you are looking for a perfect CD changer, this is the right thing to go for. Avoid using the FM modulated changers, as the quality is not even close to direct bus models.

Shinsonic 5 Disc Dvd Player SDP3000 (110V/220V) Review

Shinsonic 5 Disc Dvd Player SDP3000
Average Reviews:

This 5 disc DVD player is the cheapest 5 disc dvd player I could find and am keeping it real by not expecting too much out of it. It was $54 dollars including shipping so it was a great deal, now lets see if it lasts over a year. I have never heard of Shinshonic before but I have had plenty of other named brand items give out on me from 3 month to almost a year (Sony, Panasonic ect... very frustrating!). I guess it's kind of my fault for not getting some kind of manufacturers refund on them, hey what can I say...I'm busy, lazy, whatever.

We have educational DVDs we show our daughter almost everyday so we use this player a lot. I have had the player for a month or so and it works great so far. With Amazon's great no hassle returns within a month I didn't think we could lose too much at $54s.

I gave this player 4 stars because it reminds me of an 80s tape player. It's a bit thicker than most standard players, the remote control has a second or two delay, and it makes a little more noise than most standard dvd players do while it's changing discs. All in all these little quarks don't bother me. I will be happy if this thing lasts more than a year.

Sony MZ-R55 Portable MiniDisc Player and Recorder Review

Sony MZ-R55 Portable MiniDisc Player and Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've read the other comments on this unit, and I have to say that they don't provide you prospective buyers with a very accurate view.I've used the Sony MZ-R55, owned a Sony MZ-R50, and own an Aiwa AM-F70 so I caneasily compare this unit to others. The MZ-R55 may currently be thesmallest unit in the US, but that's really all it is; what you do have isno battery life (4hrs) and a lack of features (more on that later).TheSony MZ0-R50 may have been large but at least it ran for more than twicethe time of the R55, and the Aiwa AM-F70, may be slightly larger than theR55, but fully loaded it works for a whopping 30hrs. Now for the (lack of)features...no jog dial (very useful for titiling), no progammable play, andno backlighting on the unit itself. I'm sorry to bash this unit so badly, but those are the facts. On the upside, it is currently the smallestportable MD player/recorder (until something like March when the SonyMZ-R90 comes to the US) and hey, its made by Sony!
P.S. Both the Aiwa andthe R50 have jog dials and longer play time. The Aiwa also has main unitbacklighting (not only on the remote), and programmable play (true, thisfeature is somewhat useless on an MD).And guess what?Bothplayers/recorders are much cheaper than the Sony.

LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc Player Review

LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Of the new model year '2009' Blu Ray players, we own the LG BD370, Samsung BD-P1600, and a PS3.By far, the BD370 is the nicest for Blu Ray content. Loading is FAST and the drive is completely silent (this is not the case on the BD-P1600 by Samsung).Piano Black finish on the face is plastic, and looks good.We have found that it does not scratch easily too!The rest of the case is black-ish metal and sturdy.

One of the great things about the LG BD370 is you can customize the look of the interface on your TV. There are 4 themes and all are in high-definition.The remote on the BD370 changed from the BD300, and I feel it was a step down. It's got a faux-leather finish on it - why? No idea. The one improvement is buttons that don't get used much are hidden behind a panel on the remote.

Netflix 'Watch Instantly' is very cool and the setup is literally 30-40 seconds if you already have an account. Just after we got ours, it alerted us that a firmware update was available! It added CinemaNow - we hadn't used CinemaNow before, but a quick registration on their site and connecting was just as easy as Netflix. Rented a couple movies to try it out - VERY cool.YouTube is also available on the player and it's AWESOME. I'd easily compare it with an AppleTV, though believe it or not, the BD370 is a bit faster at searching and playing YouTube videos - it also does them in Full Screen, no problem.

One odd thing we've noticed... with Netflix and CinemaNow and YouTube we have only watched 3 or 4 movies on Blu Ray. So much other content available that this player is really a STEAL - it's a fantastic Blu Ray player (audio and video as good as you imagine it would be), but WOW is it awesome to have a player that does so much other stuff.

No wireless on this player, nor does it have built-in memory for using BD-Live. Neither of these items should be cause for concern - I haven't seen a BD-Live feature YET that has been worth while... all the good stuff is usually already on the Blu Ray disk itself.

The thing that makes it just a bit better than our Samsung BD-P1600 is the front display. The circular button assembly on the front glows a soft blue when playing Blu Ray, soft red when playing DVD, and purple on certain Netflix, YouTube, and CinemaNow video. The main display is also helpful, showing 'NETFLX', etc and most importantly, you can SEE the display (the Samsung player's display is so dim you wouldn't believe it).

For the price and feature set, I don't think there's another player I'd even consider after having used them all!

Panasonic SC-HC30 Compact Stereo System Review

Panasonic SC-HC30 Compact Stereo System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this sleek Panasonic Stereo System primarily to use with my IPOD and the IPhone that I have pre-ordered. I am using it in the kitchen and it takes up very little space on the counter since it is only 3-4 inches deep. For it's size, it produces a rich sound and the clarity of the speakers is superb. It has a full-function remote with buttons for many features that I'm sure I'll never use that others might appreciate. In addition to the remote, there are buttons for the main functions on top of the system that can be easily memorized (by placement) and accessed.

After attaching the AM and FM antennas, the various stations were easy to preset and sounded good.I have yet to play the CD player, however with the IPOD, I don't really plan on using it much. The system can be mounted to the wall if you want to put holes in your walls and have the power chord hanging down from it, however it takes up so little space, I didn't really feel the need.

The system looks high-tech and it sounds great. The bass sounds much better than you would expect given the slimness of the speakers. It has an AUX-In port on the back of it if you have an MP3 player as well. The only minor negative is accessing the IPOD dock. The first thing you need to do is hit the IPOD button which slides the front panel to the right exposing the IPOD dock.Once open, it has a lever that needs to be pushed and then it tilts out toward you for easy removal. While not difficult, it all takes time which I'm a little concerned about when I get my IPhone and I hear it ring. If you leave the IPOD dock open the silver CD portion of the front panel covers more than half of the right speaker and there is a noticable difference in sound.

All in all, I'm very happy with it and when not in use, it just sits there and looks cool!If you are only concerned about the quality of sound, I'd suggest a boom box with larger speakers such as the Sony MHC-EC69i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System which is much cheaper, has an additional 60 watts and has a deeper bass sound that fills up a room (I have one of these as well).

7/19/10 UPDATE: Received my pre-ordered IPhone 4 and it is not compatible with the dock in the Panasonic. It displays "NODEVICE" despite being snuggly fit into place.Plan B: Buy an IPOD dock and an audio cable and plug it into the AUX port on the back of the unit.Still sounds great!

Average Reviews:

The 355, 300 disc unit.My first one lasted three years, lasted up to a few days before the extended warrantee expired. It kept hunting for a disc endlessly and would not play. The unit was replaced with a new one and the replacement lasted just over one year ending with the same problem, just beyond factory warrantee.I advise against the 355 unit. The company I bought it from stated the model had some problems.

2 Stars was because it had nice features, looked nice, easy to set up, had a delete file of the tracks I don't like, and played well when it worked.Unreliable, but maybe Good if you get a 5 year extended policy and plan to take it in.

I'm being critical here- this is a good-sounding player. My critique would be that the sound isn't balanced- it's weighted toward the highs. Not much lows or low mids.Bright-sounding (I'm sensitive to this) but not harsh.
Nice amount of detail- I can understand lyrics on some songs that I never could before (our previous changer was a JVC).Changer is less "clunky" sounding than our JVC.

Sony MZR70 Minidisc Recorder Review

Sony MZR70 Minidisc Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been putting off buying a portable listening device since my last '90 Aiwa tape player. But after seeing the Minidisc in action - it's a definite buy and constant use gem.
First, do the math if you're seriously comparing MP3 format vs. Minidisc.A single MD at 74min costs 2 dollars at most - Read/write capabilities, move tracks, edit, `tMark'=index songs, etc. You don't need a computer either - use your existing AV setup to record - while having the option to use PC, DVD, etc.
Sound quality? Can you say OPTICAL input. You cannot get any better sound resolution than this; any decent DVD player has an optical out; decent CD players too.RCA IN is a plus (not included) and the PC IN option is mediocre - it is convenient with all the CD-R/PC/MP3 formatted music. It's got a two-stage added-bass feature that works quite well. The standard headphones are excellent - an updated version with position detents for fixed fit.The remote fob device is essential for total playback+record control once your MDplayer is tucked away in the pocket. (look for the RM-MZR55 remote with backlighting if you want to upgrade)
The unit has never skipped even with major motion, jostling, or shock.I haven't done a drop-test, but I'll skip it for now.The biggest drawback is the lack of a custom case/holster for the unit; it does come with a bag, but it isn't adequate for protection or carrying with any confidence.Plus, the lack of backlighting on the main unit is a bummer.
It comes with it's own AA ni-cad battery and charger, and runs for a prolonged period of time ~ 6 hours playback, 1.5-2x as long on a regular AA.The half-sized ice cream sandwich form kicks the CD portable players to the curb.It isn't as ubiquitous as some MP3 players - but why would you want to drop several dimes on something invisible.Personally, the anodized blue colored one has more impact than the silver, but the form and interface overall is a delight. The battery bulge just slightly cants the display up, the button separation and placement works great for easy access.I find excuses to block the world out and listen to high-fidelity music on the go.

after doing lot of research on sony modelsI decided to go with this new model. And now I can say that I made the right choice.

1) picture qaulity is perfect.
2) in-built speakers are louder than 8inch model and the sound is very good( I saw the sony 8 inch model at my friends place )
3) battery life - as advertised fully charged battery comes 6 Hrs(+- 15 min). I tested and confirmed this 3 times.
4) DVD drive is very quiet.

I think these qualities are enough to say this is a great product.

overall this is a very satisfactory purchase.

My husband and I have several long road trips coming up, and purchased this player to keep me and our daughter contented on the long drives. We looked at a bunch of different units, and finally settled on this one. We are not disappointed.

Its excellent, especially in the price range its in! The picture is awesome and the sound is phenomenal for being so small and inexpensive. The battery has a good life, and its just a nice bonus that in addition to the AC adapter, it also comes with a car adapter. The construction is solid and the controls are well laid out and easy to use.

We're very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend this little player to anyone looking for something quality at a decent price.
